Baking for Gold tells the fictional story of a young girl who travels across the country during the California Gold Rush to save her family from financial hardship. Written by a 10 year old girl after studying this period of time in her history class, the story is heartwarming and delightful, with a distinctly feminine twist on the traditional gold mining adventure. With surprisingly well written prose for such a young girl, it contains detailed, realistic scenarios as well as elements that could only come from a child’s imagination and perspective.
