I joked with a friend before we both read Rush that we didn't need lower blood pressure anyway, because we knew that the tension was going to ramp up in this one and whew were we right. All kinds of tension throughout this book - suspenseful tension, sexual tension, relationship tension (not just with the guys, but the family tension too).Alaina learns throughout Rush that who she was has been irrevocably changed by the events of her kidnapping and by the continued twists and turns that keep coming at her. We get some information on her dad, some reasoning as to why her mom is the way she is, and some of what's happening with her cousins. All that is in addition to the whammies of who and what the Fitzgeralds are and whether she can be part of their world. There's more steam in this book and it is smoking hot. I love Rush and enjoyed getting inside his head more. I also still love Wolf, but Sully's push/pull drives me up the wall. I know that in his book next that we'll finally get more insight into him beyond the brief ones his brothers make, but I really need him to make serious amends in book 3. Even with Sully being a reluctant participant at times, the connection between Alaina and all three of the guys is palpable and not just physical. I also appreciate that Ms. Black addresses Alaina's insecurities and shares her doubts as she's getting involved in the Brotherhood world. It's realistic that a sheltered girl wouldn't automatically feel like she belongs with these dangerous men in their world. There are also new side characters introduced and they're amazing, but the focus remains on Alaina and the guys right up until Rush ends with another big cliffhanger. But Sully is already up for preorder (while he thinks about his priorities ;)) and I will definitely be continuing this series and looking out for future books by Ms. Black.
