I really enjoyed this book. Yeah, the premise of it is a little over the top and too good to be true, but it was a sweet story with a nice-guy male lead who remained likeable for me throughout the book. Colt is attending his coach's baby reveal party, running late as always. He crosses paths with Lilly who's been employed to cater the sweets for the event, revealing the secret of the baby's gender. As Colt has a bet on the baby's stats with some of his other team members, he sees an opportunity to sweet talk Lilly into revealing if it's a boy or a girl. Lilly, who is busting her gut with her best friend to make their bakery business successful, won't have a bar of it, putting him in his place. The attraction between the two is immediate, however Lilly is reluctant to take Colt up on his offer of a date, believing him too good to be true and having her own issues with celebrities. This is the kind of book you read when you want a feel-good story that isn't too serious but has enough drama to keep your interest. The relationship between Colt and Lilly was cute and they both offered a lot to the story with their different walks of life that you probably wouldn't automatically put together. Colt's character managed to successfully be a supremely confident pro athlete that has the world at his fingertips without me wanting to whack him with something heavy, i.e. he wasn't a douche. I'll be honest though - Lilly's character almost had me taking a star off. Don't get me wrong, I liked her for the most part, but she had a serious hangup about famous people because a former best friend who dated her brother for 7 years (and who her and her brother helped rise to fame) became a horrible person one she got famous, ghosting them both. While I didn't mind the author mentioning this a time or two, Lilly's refusal to take a chance on Colt who'd been the perfect gentleman became a bit old after a while. To me, it started to border on the ridiculous. She also had a father with a medical condition and this turned her into a moody little miss at times especially when combined with her aversion to famous individuals. To me, she started to come across as a bit self-involved and selfish, discarding Colt's feelings and personal circumstances. Luckily, her witty banter and strong character was enough to win me over and keep the book at 5 stars, but it was a close call. The initial meeting between Colt and Avery was well done, making it a sweet introduction to their story. I thought the dialogue was funny and pretty witty for the most part and I loved the banter between Colt and Lilly as well as some of the secondary characters. I will warn readers - an ex of Colt's does pop up briefly towards the beginning of the book and I thought this was going to be a recurring theme, but I was super happy to read that there was no cheating, no caving in to a late night booty call and no drawn out ex story line as some authors like to do. A small nag - there were a couple of typos/grammar mistakes and an error with creek/creak, but it wasn't horrendous. I'm still going to mention it though :) And on a side note - what is going on with the photoshopped teeth of the cover model? It made him go from cute to creepy. Seriously, I might actually see that over the top smile in my sleep lol.Overall, this was a solid read for me. I quite like sports romances if the sport is a main part of the story and I felt that this book did football justice. It was heavy with detail in some parts and it complemented the plot and the couple's relationship well without taking over. I haven't read anything by this author before but this won't be my last book by her. I'll probably be slotting this novel into my Favourites folder. It wasn't perfect, but I loved it.
